Against the Kobolds

Summary
The PCs set out for the kobold lair bright and early on the 28th. Following the directions given them by Lord Ernest Padraig, they made their way to the creatures' warren to put an end to them once and for all.

The lair was a cave within a cliffside, entered through a waterfall cascading over the cliff or a couple of smaller tunnels to either side of the waterfall. A large number of kobolds were outside the lair; the PCs approached stealthily and quickly dispatched the creatures. One of them attempted to race inside and alert his fellows but fortunately he was laid low by Delfar and Saeras.

Entering through the waterfall, the PCs ran into the first wave of kobolds - some meager spearmen and a skirmisher. But before long, they were joined by more powerful foes - a kobold warrior, a priest, and worst of all, a large, burly goblin named Irontooth. A hard-fought battle ensued, but the PCs were victorious and dispatched both goblin and kobold.

Celebrations would have to wait, however. When they returned to Winterhaven, the party noticed that the villagers were feeling "out of sorts" - somewhat nervous and distraught. The PCs had also discovered a note from Kalarel to Irontooth, describing in part his plans for opening a conduit to the Shadowfell. In addition, Valthrun had further news for them from his research - the ruined keep they'd earlier learned of had originally been built to contain a rift to the Shadowfell. After speaking with the sage and Padraig, they concluded that the rumors of the Orcus cult were real - and it was likely based in the ruined keep.
