Clearing the Caverns

Summary
After verifying that a secret door in the goblinoid lair led to places they already been, the PCs returned to the cavernous area under Shadowfell Keep to ensure that nothing would be able to "surprise" them from behind as they delved deeper into the ruined dungeon.

The first cave they entered was littered with pit traps, but fortunately they were able to avoid most of them easily. Except for the one Torinn fell into later, but he easily extricated himself. Prior to the dragonborn's misfortune the PCs were assailed by a swarm of kruthiks, sort of insectoid/reptile creatures. Fear of being overwhelmed was replaced by victory as the heroes slew the beasts.

After the kruthik battle the party went to explore another cavern and came upon an amorphous ooze which assaulted them with acidic attacks. To make matters worse, over a dozen giant rats - previously hidden among the rocks, rubble, and stalactites of the cave - rushed the PCs, intent on chewing them to bits. Delfar was nearly devoured by the unusually-sized rodents, but his plucky sidekick Splug threw himself into the fray and saved his pious patron from death by rat-gnawing. The PCs were victorious, even after the acid of the ochre jelly brought Torinn to the ground (though he made a full recovery).

Now that they've exterminated the rats, goblins, and oozes from under the keep, only one path remains - and it lies beyond the Mystery Door!
