Endings and Beginnings

Summary

After the battle with the devils and the iron cobra, the party searched the shrine but found little beyond a dead ranger on the floor in front of the raised altar platform. They also discovered a door in the back of the shrine, which led to a small room with nothing of value other than clerical and ritual remnants.

Low on resources and fatigued by the earlier melee, the party spent the evening in the storage room. Fortunately, the night passed uneventfully.

The next morning, the heroes went back to the "dining area" and opened the last door in the complex they hadn't been through. The room beyond - apparently an old storeroom with rotted and torn sacks and smashed barrels - was crawling with rats of varying and unusual sizes. The vermin attacked the PCs and a battle ensued. In the middle of the combat a wererat emerged from hiding but was dispatched quickly, as were the rest of its chittering brethren.

After a fruitless search of the room, the champions returned to Ilmara.

Three months later, Edgar Venora approached them with an undertaking:

In the northern Dragonstongue Mountains, about halfway between Kharazgar and Darkspire, is a peak known as "Wyvern Mountain". Legend has it that it was once the lair of an ancient white dragon named Skelya. Skelya was defeated in a battle with other dragons long ago. Her lair has lain abandoned since, but recently there has come word that there is renewed activity at the site. It is unknown exactly who or what has taken an interest in Wyvern Mountain, though some rumors claim that the Nalgrim of Darkspire have their eye on the place.

Edgar asked the heroes to travel to the top of Wyvern Mountain and retrieve what few treasures and scraps of knowledge still exist there before the newest inhabitants of the mountain destroy them.

He noted that the information came to Venora second hand. It was originally intended for the scheming, ambitious Corzyr family. Edgar feels that Corzyr is trying to "muscle in" on ventures that are traditionally Venoran. He said that the information about Wyvern Mountain will likely eventually make it to Corzyr, but the PCs should have a two or three day headstart on them.

And with that, the champions of Venora set off to face the dangers of...Wyvern Mountain.
