Fall of the Mountain Queen

Summary

Biren apparently fell ill and went out to relieve Miandra, taking over watching Wylan's body. Miandra went back in and rejoined the group. Drakken, Kalnac, Miandra, and Shashank then continued onward from the torture chamber.

The group came to a large cavernous chamber. They cautiously entered, and as they got to the middle of the cave their exit was suddenly and unexpectedly blocked by two zombie wyverns that swooped down from hidden ledges high above on the cavern walls. A battle ensued and while it raged, two more flew in from the other side of the cave. But despite the danger, the heroes easily and effortlessly dispatched the undead reptiles.

However, the rigors of the battle proved too much for Miandra so she returned to help Biren keep watch over the ranger's rotting husk. Bravely, the rogue and his two gentleman companions continued on.

The trio followed a cavernous passage into a large chamber dominated by a broken stone throne which was surrounded by piles of treasure. Nothing moved in the room, which raised the party's suspicions. Drakken spotted something among the stalagtites over the throne, though it was too dark to make a positive identification. The three approached the throne warily when a sentient, undead white dragon dropped down from the ceiling. From the size it was likely too small to be the originally ruler of the mountain, but could very well have been one of her daughters. In any case, when she landed she immediately attacked. A hard-fought battle ensued, with the mostly being unable to the defend his companions form the dragon as it kept mesmerizing him with her fearful gaze. Fortunately, Shashank and warlock were able to keep striking it with blows both martial and arcane, and eventually slew the beast.

The party gathered up the treasure they found and worked their way to a tunnel they had not yet explored. One of the branches led to what appeared to be a tomb. They entered but when Drakken and the rogue opened the lid of the sarcophagus within, a burst of psychic energy lashed out at them. The paladin was unaffected, but Shashank was hit hard. Fortunately, he remained on his feet but had to rest a bit. The skeletal body of an elven maiden lay within the stone coffin, but the PCs were unable to determine who exactly she was. They did relieve her of her burial jewelry, however.

Little remains to be explored. But are there still more surprises awaiting our heroes on...
