The Aftermath

Summary

Further investigation by Shashank and Wylan concluded that Carina had left the manor, apparently in the company of another. It did not appear that she left unwillingly.

Interrogating the captured bandit yielded little; the only useful information he knew was that his group was to attack the manor and kill everyone inside except for someone wearing a yellow talbard with a black crow and any women with him. This matched the description of how Aaron was dressed earlier.

Once the group learned as much as they could from the bandit, he was killed by Drakken and Kalnac. In the process, the bedroom they were in was utterly destroyed

Aaron is presently in a hysterical state; questioning him didn't reveal much though he appears to have had foreknowledge of the attack. He seems to believe that his father orchestrated things, as he says it is he who gave him the talbard to wear.

While this was transpiring, Wylan was following the trail of Carina and her unknown companion from the manor. He tracked it to an abandoned farm and then returned to the party to further pursue the matter in the morning.

The next day the PCs followed the trail to the barn on the farm and then found horse tracks leading south. Following the tracks, they eventually turned abruptly and headed east, followed by a large number of additional horses.

The horse trail lead into the hills (foothills of the Orcfangs) to a rope bridge over a chasm. The horse tracks stopped at the bridge, but it was obvious that people had traversed the bridge on foot and proceeded towards a cave that lay on the other side. But before the party could follow the tracks into the cave, an ambush was sprung by another group of brigands who had been concealed in a nearby copse of trees. After a surprisingly rough battle, the heroes were victorious and turned to the skull-festooned cave entrance, prepared to enter...
