Jhadara, also known as Mistress of Pleasure or Lady Fortune, is most often portrayed as a beautiful, sensuous woman dressed in diaphanous robes, but given her nature, she can appear in virtually any form she chooses. Jhadara is the patron of those who live their lives in the pursuit of self-interest and self-indulgence, or who find themselves subject to the whims of the cosmos. Her worshipers include prostitutes, gamblers, thieves, and hedonists. Sailors make offerings to her for blessings when at sea, while many offer her a prayer or two when seeking a little extra luck in their lives. And while they won't admit it, most folk have visited a Jhadaran temple at least once in their lives, seeking the kind of "entertainment" for which the religion is renowned.
Some scholars have alleged that Jhadara was not created by the Earth Mother but instead manifested as a perversion of the Goddess's fertility aspect.
Jhadara reserves a particular enmity for Azakhar and Mallora, as she holds them responsible for the death of her sister Yaasila. Yaasila was slain by Azakhar for not submitting to his rule, and Mallora looted authority over secrets from her portfolio before Jhadara could stop her (she was able to recover illusion and trickery from her sister before the Dark Court could take those as well).
Symbols and Associations: Red, yellow; jade, citrines; musk incense; jasmine, valerian; cats, the number eight
Holy Days: The Winter Solstice (Deepwinter 16th) is the most sacred holiday of Jhadarism. On the evening of the solstice, the clerics and laity of the goddess gather in her temples and indulge in all manner of debauchery and lasciviousness.
Essence of the Faith: There is no such thing as "destiny" - all is chance and all things are possible, no matter how unlikely. When faced with indecision, roll the dice and follow where they lead you. To deny oneself pleasure is to deny oneself the very reason for existence. Truth is relative – allow others to see only what you want them to see, hear what you want them to hear, and believe what you want them to believe. Never work towards getting something tomorrow if you can simply take it today. The needs of the individual outweigh the needs of the community.
