Maru Jungles

The Maru Jungles are found in Zarkhir, west of the Varghani Mountains and extending south for an unknown distance. A few cities can be found on the fringes of the jungle, but it is mostly a savage, dangerous place, home to carnivorous plants, giant insects, and vicious apes. Large reptiles are also not uncommon.

The central and western parts of the jungle (north of Khemal) are home to human tribes that are descendants of the ancient Xucatl Empire. The Maru was dominated by the Xucatl during the Second Age but their empire faded over time due to wars with the Qeshan Empire as well as a variety of plagues and other disasters. Today the Xucatl are semi-nomadic hunters; they have abandoned their ancient cities and stone temples, which now lie hidden in the jungles. The Xucatl engage in some trade with Blackport but are enemies of Khemal and Maraada.
