Varghani Mountains

The Varghani Mountains are found in western Zarkhir. They divide the Maru Jungles in the west from the Varghani Desert in the east. The range is one of the oldest and longest mountain chains in the world.

Between the northeast end of the Varghanis and an unnamed spur running to the east, there is a deep chasm in the earth. It is unknown how deep the rift runs, but it is home to various creatures from the Underworld and contains numerous tunnels to the subterranean realms. There are also remnants of structures built into the sides of the chasm by an unknown race. Expeditions will periodically depart from Sharaj to investigate the structures, but they end up turned away by the rift's denizens or are simply wiped out. Sharaj maintains a garrisoned fort not far from the chasm to protect the city from the fell creatures that occasionally emerge and head north.
