Cool Web Site: BrickQuest

"Cool Site of the Week" lasted about two weeks, so I figured something that didn't commit me to a timetable made more sense.

Anyway, this is pretty amusing: BrickQuest.

Thanks to some fellow RPG bloggers

While vanity-searching on Technorati, I ran across this post at RPG Blog. Very cool (and a nice blog; I'll have to add a link to my blogroll...after I add a blogroll...).

A long-overdue "thanks" to Brother Bones after I found this post on his blog after following the link in one of his comments in an earlier post. His blog reminds me that I really should do more with this one than I'm doing. Not in the realm of politics - nothing wrong with that, I just think there's plenty out there without me jumping in...and I really don't have time to respond to the people who will inevitably disagree with me, particularly since (when I'm really in a argumentative mood) I back up my position with facts and logic rather than emotion and feelings. Unfortunately, that takes time and the effort is generally wasted, particularly when too many people don't want to actually listen and consider an opposing viewpoint. They just want to attack people that disagree with them.

On the other hand, generating controversy would generate traffic...

Movies: Revenge of the Sith

Spoilers Warning! You have been warned. Just now. Over there. To the left.

Saw Episode 3 Friday night. My expectations were higher than for Episode 2 since the trailers looked quite good. Happily, I wasn't disappointed.

Now, granted, this is a Star Wars movie, so we're not talking about great cinema. But it is a good addition to the series. In fact, I think I may like this one the best of the six. What really surprised me was the last 30-45 minutes or so; the rest of the movie was good for Star Wars but the end was actually a plain good movie. I was surprised since I didn't think Lucas was capable of that. But the action was good - Anakin versus Obi-Wan, Yoda versus the Emperor; the dialog was limited (which is good - Lucas can't do dialog and he can't do romance); and the story elements tied nicely into the original trilogy, including the scene showing the beginning construction of the Death Star. Seeing Anakin/Vader first walking in the new suit was a little humorous (my friend Josh uttered the obligatory Frankenstein reference), but only because of what we're used to from the "mature" Darth Vader in episodes 4-6. Further comments:

Mustaffah, or whatever the Lava Planet was Called: While this was a great place for a dramatic battle, I would think the heat and the poisonous fumes from the magma would make it a tad difficult to survive there, much less have a lightsaber battle. Of course, the laws of geology may work differently on that planet.

Yoda and Chewbacca: The prequels are all about tying things in from the past into the original trilogy, but the idea that Yoda and Chewbacca is a stretching it a bit. You'd have thought that Chewbacca would have mentioned something to Han at some point, who then would have told Luke about it.

Yoda versus Darth Sidious: Seeing the Emperor actually wielding a lightsaber and fighting someone was cool, particularly since he was fighting Yoda. An iconic battle, I guess. Whatever, I liked it.

General Grievous: If you're a cyborg, why wouldn't you encase what's left of your internal organs in something that's, oh, solid? A few metal bands aren't much protection for your heart and other remaining tissues. A cool character, but a little hard to believe.

In any case, my complaints overall are fairly trivial. I enjoyed the movie.

World of Lagcraft

Servers have been lagging beyond playability this evening. Earlier tonight I had a latency of almost 7 seconds. And now, in the middle of a battle, I was dropped from the server.

Good thing I'm not too far from the graveyard. There's almost never a recovery from that...

An Overdue Review of the New Warhammer

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay has always been one of my favorite RPGs (WFRP, D&D, and C&C are probably my top three). My wife got me the first three releases for my birthday last month - the main rulebook, the Plundered Vaults adventure anthology, and the Character Pack (the latter isn't really all that useful). A couple weeks ago I bought the monster book - the Old World Bestiary. All four books are very well-done, as you'd expect from WFRP.

I have yet to play the new version but overall it looks good - they kept the good features of the original game and changed or dropped the not-so-good. The magic system in particular looks intriguing. I also like how the Bestiary has an "in-game" section in the front and then the standard stat blocks in the back.

OK, this is a pretty crappy review; more of a fanboy gush. But, I don't care; I don't feel like writing an in-depth review. If you're interested in the game, check out the real reviews you can find elsewhere on the Web. Personally, I think it looks like a great choice for your main game or as an alternate to your standard campaign.

The Alliance Sucks

Well, not entirely, but I have to say that I really prefer the Horde. There is far less competition for quests, and more of an appearance of being a "hero" rather than just another guy out of the 10-15 that are running around the same damned cave looking for gnoll spittle or some such ridiculous thing.

And you can't even compare the AH in Ironforge to Ogrimmar. Though I did read a rumor that they were going to extend the AH to the other major cities, at least on the Alliance side. That would be nice (for both sides).

I'd heard complaints about this sort of thing but since it'd been a couple months since I'd played my Paladin, I had though the complainers were crazy. In general, when I was on a quest with my Warlock (Undead), at most I'd run into one other person on the same quest as me. As often as not, we'd group to make our lives easier.

Now, the NE babes are hotter than anything the Horde has, I'll grant you that...
